The Jubilee Service

Categories: Community, Events, Media, News, Press releases

Almost 2000 people gathered at the Cathedral this weekend (27th May) for the Hampshire County Council Diamond Jubilee Service. Attended by the Earl of Wessex and with representatives of the civic and ecclesiastical community across the county, led by HM Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan, also present were 60 Diamond Volunteers, one of whom read one of the lessons. The Dean of Winchester preached and afterwards the whole congregation was invited to a special tea.

As he arrived, the Earl was able to pause for a moment to be shown a ‘Big Thank You Card’, signed by The Bishop and The Dean of Winchester to be sent to Her Majesty, alongside a display of over 50 card designs from the Diocese’s schools as part of a completion (pictured). The front and back covers of the card are the winning entries – More details are available of the Big Card Competition at www.winchester.anglican.org.
