Winchester Cathedral Welcomes the Olympic Torch
Categories: Announcement, Community, Events, News
We were delighted to welcome the Olympic Torch to the Cathedral on Wednesday 11 July, on the 54th day of the Torch Relay. The torch was carried to the Cathedral by Kirstie Nash, 18, from Winchester, who was nominated for the help and support that she gives to her disabled sister. Kirstie passed the flame to the next torch bearer Phillip Blowfield in front of the Cathedral. Crowds gathered to celebrate this exciting occasion.
The Cathedral Close was dressed for the occasion and will remain decorated throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Cathedral Close will host a large screen throughout the event as an official Community Live Site. For more information visit www.winchester2012.co.uk.
