Choral music has been one of the glories of this great Cathedral for nearly a thousand years.
Auditions are being held for the opportunity to become a chorister of Winchester Cathedral.
This opportunity is for girls in Year 6, 7 & 8 and boys in Year 3. No singing experience is required. Please read the information below for details of how to book an audition.
The Cathedral Boys Choir
Auditions are being held now for the opportunity to become a boy chorister.
The boy choristers join from all over the world and form part of the long-established and internationally acclaimed choir. Accompanied by the Lay Clerks, the boys sing at many prestigious services throughout the year.
How to audition:
Firstly, you’ll need to book for an informal audition and should he be successful he will be invited to attend the formal audition day.
Informal auditions have already started – These are casual, relaxed and chatty auditions where your son will be asked to work through a series of simple ear and vocal exercises. He does not need to have had previous experience. The Director of Music will explain everything carefully and offer lots of help.

A school place must be secured at The Pilgrims’ School before a formal audition can be undertaken. Choristers are educated as full boarders at The Pilgrims’ School and receive a 40% scholarship, plus funding for instrumental lessons and vocal coaching. Additional bursaries are available on a means tested basis. School assessments are held on Tuesday mornings by appointment with the Registrar: admissions@pilgrims-school.co.uk.

The Cathedral Girls Choir
Founded in 1999, this choir is made up of 20 girls aged 12–17, all from schools in the Winchester and Hampshire area, who sing a weekly service alongside the Lay Clerks. For more information about the choir, please click here.
