The Cathedral Girls Choir
Founded in 1999, this choir is made up of 20 girls aged 11-18, all from schools in the Winchester and Hampshire area, who sing a weekly service alongside the Lay Clerks. For more information about the choir, please click here.

FAQs
What does the audition include?
The audition is a fun experience! You’ll get to sing a song you know (your choice), do some listening exercises (which will be explained to you), and answer some music theory questions. It’s all about showing us what you can do!
What to sing?
You can choose any song you like to sing. Whether its something you’ve sung at school, a hymn or song from the radio, or even ‘Happy Birthday’, pick a song which you feel comfortable with.
Who will be at the auditions?
Joshua Stephens (Director of Girls Choir), Andrew Lucas (Director of Music) and Hilary Jones (Chorister Vocal Tutor) will be there to support you. They are really friendly and want to help you do your best.
Parents and guardians can remain present at all times – we know how important moral support can be!
Where will the auditions take place?
No. 10, The Close, Winchester Cathedral.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for girls who have a tuneful singing voice, an ear for music, and most importantly, who enjoy singing!
How long will my audition take?
Auditions can last up to 1 hour.
Do girl choristers receive any bursaries if successful?
Girl Choristers receive a £325 bursary per term to support instrumental tuition, plus regular singing lessons with our Vocal Tutor, Hilary Jones.
What's the commitment?
The Girl Choristers rehearse during term time on a Wednesday evening 17:00 to 18:15, followed by theory session 18:15 to 18:45; Friday evening 17:00 to 18:15; and sing either the morning or afternoon services on Sunday
