Christmas Candle Making Workshop by piano and candlelight

“It all started in 2018 when we decided to move family home. Myself, Mum, brother & sister had lived here for 20 special years, surrounded by the beautiful British countryside.

20 years of family memories, what on earth could I gift my Mum to capture this time? Struggling to find a gift (and running out of time), I decided to ‘attempt’ to draw a picture of the house.

Quite honestly, the drawing was no better that what you would expect to find at an infant school. But, it was the appreciation and meaning of what I had attempted to capture that sparked something in me.

A year down the line, due to illness, I ended up having to have some time off from University & my corporate job. To fill the time I thought it would be fun to draw a few more houses. Wonky drawings quite quickly filled up my friends & families houses. The drawings lead me to experiment in other drawing techniques. Quite quickly I found the world of pattern design.

Fixated on pattern design but with only a background in business I decided to not go back to my corporate job & study a Masters in Illustration. To make a few pennies whilst studying I started to sell my designs on tea towels… and this is where it really began!” – Laura Fisher

• If you are facing the Cathedral, take the passageway (Curle’s Passage) to the right of the Cathedral.
• Once through the passageway, you will see the Cathedral Close in front of you (where the Christmas    Market takes place)
• Follow the footpath on the right hand side, you will pass No 11 and No 10.
• You will then reach the Learning Centre (10a)
• Rather than coming to the front door of the Learning Centre, please walk under the walkway.
• We will be ready to welcome you.

• When you come into the Learning Centre, there will be toilets available – accessible toilets are available
• There is ramp access into the workshop space
• Please remember there is no parking available on the Cathedral estate so please factor in the time to park your car or use public transport
• If anyone attending the workshop has accessibility requirements, it is really useful for us to know this in advance so we can appropriately prepare the space, please do let us know if this is the case by emailing emma.bourner@winchester-cathedral.org.uk
