Immerse yourself amongst the stars and walk through mesmerising sound and light installations that fill almost every inch of the cathedral.

All set to transform Winchester Cathedral throughout the interior with stunning sound and light artwork, the award winning artistic collaboration, Luxmuralis, will begin this years Christmas celebrations taking viewers on an uplifting journey. Projections with bespoke music will transform the historical architecture of this majestic building.

It promises to be a stunning experience for the whole family and the perfect start to the Christmas season.

At the beginning of the year Winchester Cathedral hosted ‘Science ’ light spectacular which saw thousands attend from miles around and thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in the extraordinary son et lumiere that filled the sacred space. Now Luxmuralis is happy to be back with this stunning Christmas show for all ages ‘Star of Wonder.’

Artistic Director Peter Walker says:

“We are delighted to return to the Cathedral and present this awe inspiring work this Christmas. Visitors will enjoy being immersed amongst the stars, walk through mesmerising sound and light installations and see the ‘Light of Hope Star’ sculpture which will take centre stage. We look forward to working again with the Cathedral team and seeing individuals and families enjoy this uplifting light show and beautiful music.”

Refunds

We have had an increase in enquiries regarding getting to the experience via trains due to the recent announcement of industrial access on the trains.

Unfortunately due to the popularity of the event we are unable to rearrange tickets at this point. However we can add you to the waiting list and if tickets become available we will be in contact to make changes to your original booking. The collaborative team

Luxmuralis is a collaborative team combining artists from different backgrounds and artistic disciplines – creating works across multiple media and presentation formats. Core to their work is the opportunity to explore the development of fine art tradition through new media and place the medium in an art historical context. The primary purpose of Luxmuralis is to take art onto the streets and provide access to visual artwork in public as well as unexpected places.The teams lead artists are : Artistic Director, Peter Walker MRBS FRSA & Composer, David Harper Msc.

Please be aware this event takes you on a journey around the Cathedral and may include steps up and down in places. There will be a ramp and wheelchair lift in place, which will be operated by a trained steward on the night.

In addition, as Luxmuralis is a show of light, this event may not be suitable for visitors with sensitivity to flashing/moving light.

There will be an area dedicated for pram/buggy storage on entrance of the cathedral, so that you can enjoy the experience ‘hands free’ (items left at owners risk).

Travel

Travelling to the Cathedral

Please note the entrance to ‘A Star of Wonder’ is via the back of the Cathedral, this is a 5 – 10 minute walk from the front of the Cathedral and through the Christmas Market.

Please note that there is no parking available on the Cathedral Grounds. There are many car parks available throughout the city centre.

Alternatively, Winchester has good public transport links and we would recommend using public transport to travel to the cathedral where possible.
