On 25th September, Winchester’s annual Half Marathon, and a new 10K route, is being run in the city. This will cause disruption for those travelling in and around the area.

Runners leave the city centre between 9.00am and 9.15am. At the beginning of the race the runners are very close together, therefore between 9.00am and 9.30am it will be difficult to get access via St Swithun St.

Critical times for the Cathedral are highlighted, below:

  • 8.00am Holy Communion – Arrival won’t be affected into the Cathedral at this time, all roads are still open, if possible, exiting at 8.40am would minimise delay, leaving via St Swithin St before the runners are there. After 9.00am, once the bulk of runners are through St Swithun St, cars will be let out.
  • 10.00am Eucharist – choirs are advised to arrive early to be ready for 9.00am and avoid closures and delay. Others are advised to arrive after 9.30am when the bulk of runners are through the city centre and onto St James Ln.
  • 1.00pm Community meeting – The only road closures at this time are on Colebrook St and the Broadway for the main race village, there are no route road closures at this time so there will be no problem arriving at the cathedral.
  • Baptism – there will be no problem accessing this, though the city centre car parks might be a bit busier than usual.
  • 3.30pm Evensong – No road closures will affect this and the site will almost cleared.

Please be aware, there may still be runners on the route around the road closure times. Drivers are advised to to be vigilant and drive slowly with hazards on if there are runners on the route.
