Following the recent events of the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine, Canon Roly, Vice-Dean at Winchester Cathedral, offers a message and a prayer for the people of Ukraine, and for peace and reconciliation in their country.

Yesterday, the 5.30pm Evening Prayer Service at the Cathedral was held for the crisis in Ukraine. The Great Screen was illuminated in blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag, and candles were lit in reflection and prayer, next to a vase of flowers and a small flag. Watch the service here.

All are welcome to pray and reflect in the Cathedral, or light a candle for those affected by the developments in Ukraine.

Canon Roly invites you to join in prayer, to express in faith that God is greater than the lies and violence raining down on the people of Ukraine:

Almighty God,

whose will is for truth, peace and justice,

may your will be done for the people of Ukraine,

as their nation is threatened by war.

Give to them courage in their tribulation

and strength to defend their freedom.

In this moment of need and crisis

show us how best to support them;

for Christ’s sake.

Amen
