Creatures large and small are taking over the cathedral this summer! From Dr Dolittle’s parrot entertaining families at the outdoor theatre, to mechanical animal artworks as part of the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre. All this plus family-curated tours, workshops, self-led trails, welcoming services, and more! Come rain or shine, there’s fun and adventure at every corner of the cathedral this summer.

Coming to the cathedral for the first time, Cabaret Mechanical Theatre is an interactive family-friendly exhibition combining art, science, and engineering guaranteed to inspire a range of ages. There’s no pre-booking required as entry is included with your annual pass. From 19th July to 31st August.

Next up is a variety of outdoor theatre performances taking place in August, all shows are family-friendly and set in the idyllic surrounding of the Lower Deanery gardens.

On Saturday, 3rd August, at 6.00pm, enjoy the outdoor theatre performance of ‘Dr Dolittle,’ a charming adventure about Dr John Dolittle’s unique ability to talk to animals. Suitable for ages 5+. Be immersed in the chilling and cheeky adaptation of ‘Hound of the Baskervilles,’ where Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson tackle their most baffling case. Suitable for ages 8+. Finally, on Saturday, 24th August, at 6.00pm, join the Chapterhouse Theatre Company for a brand-new telling of the classic fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast,” featuring original music, suitable for all ages.
