On Thursday 7th July at 5.30pm, the cathedral filled with families and guests of honour in celebration of The Henry Beaufort School's 50th anniversary.

Hundreds of people attended the special service, including the Headteacher and Chair of Governors of The Henry Beaufort School, as well as past and present pupils, some of which were part of the original 1971 intake.

The service kicked-off to the backing of an upbeat samba band and banners that decorated the nave of the cathedral. Young people led with prayers in different languages, followed by a school choir singing Amazing Grace, and a performance of When I grow Up from the musical Matilda.

The Bishop of Basingstoke preached powerfully about The Henry Beaufort School’s values and how institutions and people may be judged by how they react in crisis and look after the most vulnerable.

In one particularly poignant moment flowers were laid in the Chantry Chapel of Cardinal Henry Beaufort by a present and past pupil.
