Each year Winchester Cathedral strives towards improving the Christmas Market and becoming more sustainable. During the planning phase the works team shared the ambition to use renewable energy at the market this year. The idea for lighting the Cathedral Christmas Market tree was born!
This would require a small investment in a solar panel pack, the skillset of Ben, Cathedral Facilities Manager, and of course sunlight. The development team shared this with Cathedral Business Partners, and Paris Smith LLP leapt at the chance to support by becoming a market sponsor this year. The panel arrived in good time and was tested before installation.
Aptly the theme for advent and Christmas at Winchester Cathedral this year is ‘Let the light In’. All lighting at the market is LED, requiring less mains power, we do not use generators.

Huw Miles, Managing Partner from Paris Smith joined us at market opening. We wish to thank them for their continued support as a cathedral business partner and event sponsor. We hope you will join us at the market as we celebrate the festive season with market carols, sample the delights of the surrounding food court chalets, and watch the performers on the community stage.
Winchester Cathedral are committed to continuous improvement of green efforts. If you have any suggestions for further improvements, please email Christmas.Market@winchester-cathedral.org.uk
