Rest in peace Canon Gary

It is with deep sadness that I write the sad news that Canon Gary Philbrick died in hospital yesterday afternoon.

Our hearts go out to his family in their grief following Gary’s sudden and short illness. It is hard for us all to comprehend what has happened.

This morning, Wednesday 24th July, a short time of prayer was held in the cathedral at 11.00am. You can watch the live stream of this service below.

You may like to say this prayer:

Heavenly Father,

you have not made us for darkness and death,

but for life with you for ever.

As we give thanks for your servant Gary

and commend him to your safe keeping,

speak to us your words of eternal life.

Lift us from anxiety and grief

To the light and peace of your presence,

In the name of your Son Jesus Christ,

Amen.

Gary was very greatly loved in the Diocese of Winchester and will be very greatly missed. But his hope was in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and it is into that hope we now commit him. Please do pray for Craig his son, and all his family. Funeral details will follow. May Gary rest in peace, and rise in glory.
