RBC Brewin Dolphin have embraced their partnership and were the first to climb the scaffold on the south side with our Stonemasons. They were fascinated to learn how much work is done by hand, here on site. Questions ranged from how stone is sourced, how the cathedral was constructed, and if present day technology helps them in their work to conserve the fabric of the building.
Our visitors discovered the difference between Grotesques and Gargoyles, Masons Marks and Maquettes and were fortunate to meet Cathedral Archaeologist Oliver Jessop. He shared his thoughts with the group on what might have happened to the stonework over the years.
They left with a great appreciation for the conservation work of these highly skilled team members and expressed interest in visiting the stonemason’s workshop to try for themselves the art of stonemasonry.
We value the contribution from the team at RBC Brewin Dolphin and for investing time in this partnership, do look out for them as they return soon to climb the Tower, and thank you to cathedral stonemasons Ross and Pourang for sharing their expertise.
