For many years, Chapter has had an aspiration to improve the seating in the Cathedral. Our chairs, initially designed for the new Coventry Cathedral, have served us well, but they don’t offer the flexibility we need for current operations. This puts considerable and unnecessary strain on our hard-working team of Virgers. We hope to offer greater comfort to all who visit and worship with us, and also to replace the plastic bucket seats, which do not conform to modern safety standards.

We are exploring the options to replace at least the nave seating. We do not want to rush this process, which will involve careful consultation with other places of worship and other specialists, but our plan includes seeking the view of potential users, including our congregations.

We have therefore brought in four different types of chair, all of them already used in cathedrals, abbeys and greater churches. They are situated at the Nave crossing of the cathedral, lettered A to D. After your visit, please use the survey to rate the comfort of each model and to offer brief comments, if you would like to.
